Learn To Swim Before The Pool Opens This Summer Learn To Swim Before The Pool Opens This Summer Registration begins March 1st and lessons start March 16th and March 23rd. The American Red Cross of Summit and Portage Counties and Goodyear proudly present a special “spring edition” of the Learn to Swim Program. Classes are only $5 per person and training levels start at six months of age. Classes are being offered at the Canal Square YMCA (Akron), the Kent Roosevelt High School pool and the Kent State Recreation and Wellness Center Participants MUST register in person at: In Summit County: American Red Cross, Summit County Office, 501 West Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44303 In Portage County: American Red Cross, Portage County Office, 609 West Main Street, Ravenna, Ohio 44266 More on Red Cross Aquatic Training… American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim classes provide instruction to help swimmers of all ages and abilities develop their swimming and water safety skills. It is designed to give students a positive learning experience by teaching aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. The objective is to teach people to swim and to be safe in, on, and around the water. The American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim program includes instruction for Parent & Child Aquatics. The class has been developed to teach children 6 months to 5 years of age and their parents swimming readiness by emphasizing fun in the water. Parents and children participate in several guided practice sessions that help children learn elementary skills, including water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, underwater exploration and more. Once children can perform basic skills without parental assistance, they may begin Learn-To-Swim courses. The six Learn-To-Swim levels and the objectives for each level are: Pre-School Level 1 Child must be between 3 to 5 years of age. This will be child’s 1st time in water without an adult. Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills: helps students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills: gives students success with fundamental skills. Level 3: Stroke Development: builds on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice.
